A relentless ambition to always improve
Wokingham is not resting on its laurels. We are proud of the quality of life we offer: with great schools; green space; and a fantastic location. We will build on these foundations to create even more customer centric services that meet the needs of all our residents.
As part of the Insight, Strategy & Inclusion, we are recruiting two new roles to take forward our strategy work. You will join the small but dedicated team as either the Senior Policy & Strategy Officer or Policy & Strategy Officer, working closely with the Head of Insight, Strategy & Inclusion in supporting the Chief Executive in the strategic direction of the council. You will be using you strategic planning skills to shape key corporate strategies and the way we drive service performance within our borough to meet demand in the most accessible way for everyone who needs us. You will design and implement impactful policies and strategies that go beyond the ‘written word’ and create positive impacts across our borough.
Your team’s work will feed into the current council plan and support the Members and the executive team to enhance the strategic direction of our corporate strategy beyond 2022. This will also include working across the council to align departmental strategies, add horizon scanning capacity and create policy briefings for senior management and members.
With a policy or strategy background, you will be keen to step into these broad and visible roles within our organisation. Whether you are operating already within the corporate centre, or are coming to this from a functional directorate, you will demonstrate an ability to think, act and work across a complex organisation.
What we are looking for is someone who: has imagination; the ability to work across departmental and professional boundaries; can develop compelling strategies to improve our services; and can strengthen the linkage between the newly formed Chief Executive’s Office, council directorates and our community: ensuring no one is left behind. You will be comfortable working within a political context and understand the nuances of operating within a local government context.
